Centred on Moscow and St Petersburg, Russia’s growing modern and contemporary art market has been building since the collapse of the USSR where contemporary art was deemed Anti-Soviet. Russia’s ongoing involvement in the Venice Biennale has worked to establish a greater global interest in the work of a new emerging Russian artistic community. Further attention is generated by new regional contemporary art institutions and the recent, fourth iteration of the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.
