Will 2012 be as good as 2011?
ArtTactic's Global Art Market Outlook report examines the current trends within Latin America as well as the rest of the top art markets. There is a snapshot of the overall art market barometer and an individual breakdown of the welfare and performance of each region. This report includes auction analysis and the expectations for the year ahead.
One would have expected Sotheby’s and Christie’s Latin American sales in New York in November 2011 to have benefitted from the successful season of post-war and contemporary sales in New York the week before. However, with 758 lots on the block, the focus on quantity rather than quality was not the most appropriate strategy in the current climate. The 2011 sales total came in 4% below 2010, showing a market that is levelling out, after a 40% growth rate between 2009 and 2010.
