David Hockney

David Hockney was born in Bradford, England in 1937. He was educated at the Bradford School of Art in the mid 1950s, then at the Painting School of the Royal College, and went on to become a versatile artist known to work in the mediums of painting, photo-collage, stage design, printmaking, and even art meant for electronic tablet devices. His early works often treat the subject of homosexual love, while after moving to California in the early 1960, his focus turned to the lifestyle and setting of the American West Coast. Suburban homes, swimming pools, and palm trees are recurring visual imagery. Hockney also began to use acrylic paint during this period, emphasising his flat aesthetic and preference for a vivid palette. He is most closely associated with Pop art.
