Indian art market finds bottom
After the poor performances by the modern and contemporary Indian art auctions in New York in March 2009, buyers seem to be slowly regaining confidence in the sector.
Christie’s opened the season on Wednesday, 10th June with a 96 lots sale, estimated at £2,042,500 – £2,982,500. The auction, which managed to raise £1,989,100 (,262,124), marked a 56.47% decrease in volume from the result of £4,570,100 (est. £ 3,324,500 – £4,657,500) achieved in June 2008. However, it is 66% above the ,964,600 (est. ,236,000 – ,268,000) registered in New York in March 2009.
